Six Flags DISCOVERY KINGDOM Promises More Value, More Flags, More Fun!

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom kicked off a new year of thrilling family fun on Saturday, March 6 with a three-week long celebration - Birthday Adventures - and my family was there. The event honors Taj, the park’s popular female Asian elephant, who turns a remarkable 70 years of age this year.  The party continues all season long with unprecedented pricing, amazing animal encounters and a full slate of interactive park offerings that bring to life the best in Land, Sea and Sky.

Some of the highlights and offerings this season include:

  • Spring Break Presented by Stride® Gum / Medusa’s 10th Anniversary – Medusa, the West Coast’s first floorless coaster and still the tallest and fastest in Northern California, turns 10 this year.  To celebrate, Oasis Plaza will be transformed into a giant toga party that even the Greek gods would appreciate. Open daily from March 25-April 11 for Spring Break.
  • Year of the Dolphin – one of the park’s greatest hidden treasures is its Dolphin Discovery dolphin swim program. To bring this interactive experience to the forefront, 2010 has been designated the Year of the Dolphin.  Special events have been planned throughout the season. Celebrate one of the world’s most intelligent species.
  • $49.99 for Season Passes – this limited time price is only $5 more than a one-day ticket.  Season Passes offer unlimited visits to any Six Flags theme park in the United States, five free tickets for friends and more than $300 in savings on in-park food and fun.  In addition, Season Pass holders will enjoy exclusive ride times and a private Season Pass Holder Appreciation night on September 17.

New and Enhanced Shows

  • Birds of the World – Squawking, cooing, cawing and cackling are just some of the sounds you’ll hear in this all-new bird show. Some of these as the feathered stars actually sing in … soprano!
  • Celebrate Shouka – Shouka, the killer whale, is grace and beauty personified.  This Spring, the stage is hers and the guests as audience members have the opportunity to participate in choosing the show they want to see. Prior to each show, audience members can select from different music and themes by texting to a specific number.  The theme that receives the most votes will be performed at that time.
  • Looney Tunes Dance-Off – This entertaining and high-energy new show stars Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Tweety as they face-off in a fun-filled dance competition.
  • Merlin’s Island Party Sponsored by Hawaiian Airlines – The popular Caribbean-themed dolphin show will share the stage this summer with Club Cetacean, a 70s-style disco nighttime showcase, complete with a sparkly mirrored ball.  The dolphins will have the audience grooving in their seats.
  • Odin’s Temple of the Tiger – Opened last summer, the underwater feats of Odin, the spectacular white Bengal tiger, and his fellow tigers drew spectators from far and wide. This season, the amazing displays of agility and strength can be viewed on giant video screens to catch all of the action.

New Food Areas

Johnny Rockets Shakes and Fries – Sometimes just the sides will do. French fries, onion rings, chicken strips and milkshakes rule supreme in an all new Johnny Rockets location opening near the Lakeside Games area. These fan favorites are the perfect go-to option for the whole family.

New Catering Kitchen – Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is a popular place to bring groups, from 15 people to 15,000.  To ensure that every group receives world class service, a new catering kitchen will be available to accommodate the most discerning of palates. New and expanded menu options, plus secluded scenic lakeside picnic groves offer groups a private paradise for families, friends and co-workers.

Candy Kitchen – the decadent fresh fudge aroma will waft from a newly remodeled Candy Kitchen located at the Kingdom Market gift store.  It’s a candy connoisseur’s paradise.

“Six Flags Discovery Kingdom has always been a premiere destination for affordable, close to home family fun,” said Eric Gilbert, Park President. “With our slate of entertainment options and special events, we’re offering our guests a summer of amazing experiences with value like never before.”

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is home to eight thrilling roller coasters, three children’s themed areas including Thomas Town™ and meet and greets with Six Flags’ world-famous cast of characters, including Mr. Six – the ageless, dancing, rater-of-fun who’s back and in the park all-season long beckoning guests to have More Flags. More Fun.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom also offers unique animal interaction programs designed to educate, captivate and thrill guests of all ages. In addition to Dolphin Discovery, guests can participate in the Trainer for a Day series, where they can actually shadow marine mammal trainers in this day-long program.  During the popular overnight Sharks in the Dark program, guests can sleep among the sharks.  With a Seafari Pass, guests can feed lorikeets, seals and sea lions, and giraffes.  They can even ride an elephant.
