4 Simple Ways to Boost Your Brain Power

Can’t find your keys? How about your car? A little bit of forgetfulness is normal, especially as you get older. Here are four simple ways to boost your brainpower.

Flex some muscle. Your mental muscle, that is. You need to work out your mind just like your body. Brain exercises like crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and other thinking games challenge your memory and keep your mind in shape.

Walk it off. Take a brisk forty-minute walk three times a week. Studies show this actually protects your brain as the years go by. Exercise in general is a good idea.

Make a place for everything. Always put personal objects like your keys, wallet, and sunglasses, in the same drawer, or basket. A structured routine helps your mind memorize things. Another good idea: keep a calendar of where you’re going and what you have to do and use it!

Drink lots of water. It’s really important to get plenty of water throughout the day. If you don’t, you can get dehydrated, which can zap your memory and cause confusion. Drinking too much alcohol does the same thing-so limit how much beer and liquor you drink.

Remember, its normal to forget someone’s name from time to time. But if you or a loved one has more troubling memory problems such as always asking the same question or difficulty thinking, talk to your doctor. There are simple tests to tell if your forgetfulness is a sign of something more serious.
