A word of caution before you let your fingers do the shopping, please keep these things in mind:

  • Update your virus protection, spam filters, and anti-spyware software. Hackers come out to prey when folks are more likely to be exchanging sensitive financial data. Just like you’d guard your wallet in a crowded Black Friday line, guard your bank account in the Cyber Monday rush.
  • Protect your credit card number. It’s suggested that you never store your credit card or personal information with a retailer. Uncheck defaulted “Remember me” boxes. Pay attention to check box options as you confirm your order. Finally, find out if your credit card company offers a unique number for online purchases.
  • Use trusted websites. Make sure the address bar has an “https” connection when you go to check out. The additional “s” on the http means the website is secure and that hackers can’t access your financial information. It’s also a good indicator that the retailer you’re buying from is legitimate.

Finally, sit back and enjoy those incredible Cyber Monday savings!
