How to Achieve This Fall’s Hottest Hairstyles

It's hard to believe, but fall is right around the corner. For many, that means new clothes, new makeup, and a new 'do! Here are a few of the hottest hairstyles and tips on how transform your mane into the main attraction!

Loose Waves: Romantic waves a la Olivia Palermo (above) are still one of the hottest styles around. The good news is they're easy to achieve! After you blow dry your hair, spray it with a bit of hairspray to make it easier to work with. Next, section out your hair and curl it with a curling iron. Work your way around your head until all of your hair is curled. Spritz your hair with a bit of hairspray again, take a wide paddle brush and gently brush your hair into long flowing waves. One final shot of hairspray and you're good to go!

Braids: Braids are back! For a unique twist this fall, why not combine them waves? Follow the directions for wavy hair above, then simply take the top section of your hair and form a wraparound braid. This may look complicated, but all it takes it a little practice. Take the top half of your hair and divide it into sections as you braid it around your head (think of it as a sideways French braid). When you get to the other side, tuck the ends under and pin them out of sight. A generous amount of hairspray will keep everything in place.

Classic Chignon: The classic chignon is one of Adele's favorite looks! This is another style that may seem intimidating, but is actually very easy to achieve. Brush your hair out until it's smooth and spritz it with hairspray. Use your fingers to draw your hair back to the nape of your neck, and use a wide paddle brush to smooth it into a ponytail. Spray your hair and ponytail with a bit of hairspray and tease the pony to give it some volume. Smooth the top hairs of the pony with your brush and then start to wrap the hair around the base of the ponytail. Pin your hair as you go and tuck the ends under. Don't be afraid to use as many hairpins as you need to give your chignon support. (Tip: One of the hottest beauty accessories is the Hair Bungee ($12.95 per 4/pack). It's very small bungee cord that helps create a super smooth pony without snagging your hair, and is perfect for creating this style.)

Chalk Highlights: If you want to give bright highlights a try, but don't want permanent color, try chalk! You can find large pieces of chalk at any craft store or drugstore. This is a fun trend that's fit for all ages. First, take a small section of hair and spray it with water until damp. Twist the section of hair and rub the chalk onto it, working down your locks as far as you want the color. Be sure to work from the root down in order to keep the cuticle smooth. Once you're done coloring, set the hue with either a flat or curling iron. Don't use a lot of extra styling products, or the chalk will turn "gummy." When you want to go back to your natural color, simply wash your hair.
