Your Guide to Radiant Skin

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, now is the perfect time to unearth your best body and face and put them both forward! Although you never need a reason to express self-love by taking care of your skin, it’s always great to have one.

The following tips will take your whole body from feeling so-so to supple and silky:

1. Determine your true skin type.

Each individual is beautiful for his or her differences; that being said, not all complexions are created the same. While this doesn’t mean that one skin type is superior to the others, it’s important to understand what skin type you have in order to make the best choices for your face and body.

Whether your skin is dry, oily, normal, combination or sensitive, you’ll need to have a facial cleanser, toner, eye cream, facial moisturizer, exfoliant, body wash and body moisturizer to properly care for your skin. The products you choose will be determined by your skin’s specific needs.

2. Stick to your morning and evening ritual.

Bringing forth your softest, most goddess-like skin will take effort and a commitment to your complexion. Your skin should be cleansed once in the morning and once in the evening, seven days a week. Apply toner after washing, and then proceed with nourishing eye cream. Follow up with moisturizer or night cream. Once you’ve committed to making this a part of your everyday routine, your skincare ritual will quickly become second nature, leading the way to more beautiful skin.

3. Assess your skin for any extra needs.

Fine lines, wrinkles and changes in texture are caused by a loss of collagen, which is the main protein responsible for adding plumpness to the skin. Incorporate a Vitamin C serum into your routine to stimulate collagen production. In addition, avoid unhealthy behaviors like smoking and excessive drinking, which can cause the skin to age more rapidly.

4. Remember to exfoliate.

Dead skin cells have been known to hang on longer than a bad boyfriend. Exfoliating the skin refreshes the surface by removing these cells to reveal a more radiant complexion. If your skin is dry or sensitive, exfoliate one to two times per week. This step can be performed two to three times a week if your complexion is on the oily side. Always choose a chemical exfoliant, like glycolic acid, if you have acne. It’s much gentler than grainy scrubs, which can cause unnecessary irritation. Remember to exfoliate your body with a body wash containing alpha hydroxy acids such as glycolic acid or one of your scrubs.

5. Moisturize and protect.

Over time, sun exposure can cause wrinkles, fine lines and loss of firmness. Taking measures is the key to keeping your skin smooth and young-looking for as long as possible. Be sure to keep exposed skin safe from the sun by wearing a sunscreen with an SPF 15 or greater on your face and body. Fortunately, during the winter it’s easy to stay covered in clothing; however, don’t forget to wear a pair of sunglasses.

6. Give yourself the spa treatment.

If you’ve ever had the luxury of visiting a spa for a facial, then you know how great your skin feels after a treatment. This is partly due to the esthetician’s facial massage which increases blood flow and allows the skin to absorb product better. Be gentle applying products, using a steady and relaxing pressure.

7. Tend to your hands, feet, elbows and everywhere else.

Soft skin doesn’t start and end with the face. Remember to extend your regimen to the rest of your body for touchable skin all over. To give your feet a treat, soak them in a bath with a dash of botanically-enriched body wash. Then use a pumice stone to soften calluses. Dry the feet, and apply a hydrating vitamin C serum and a pair of cotton socks for maximum softness.

8. Eat healthy and drink enough water.

Your beautiful complexion will emerge when you treat yourself right from the inside out. Be sure to get your daily recommended dose of vitamins, minerals, fats and protein for strong hair, skin and nails. Additionally, stay moisturized internally by drinking enough water each day. Follow these steps, and it’ll be easy to have touchable, smooth skin you can adore every day of the year!
