Jenn Berman, PhD

Dr. Jenn Berman is a nationally recognized psychotherapist, sports psychology consultant, author, speaker, and media figure. She has a private practice in Beverly Hills, California.

Dr. Jenn is considered to be an expert on children and performance issues. She consults for A Minor Consideration, an advocacy group founded by child star Paul Petersen that protects child stars and athletes. She also is on the advisory board for the Actor’s Fund and actively participants in programs to help child performers increase self esteem, avoid substance abuse problems, and help transition into the non-acting world.

Dr. Jenn does consulting work for USA Gymnastics. She has participated in the USA Gymnastics Task Force on the Female Triad (osteoporosis, amenoreah, and eating disorders), the USA Gymnastics Health Care Summit, and the USA Gymnastics Training Camp. She also consults for Wow! Me Too! a multi-media entertainment group for children and self esteem.

The doctor has a monthly column in Los Angeles Family Magazine, South Bay Family Magazine, Santa Clarita Magazine, Las Vegas Family Magazine and Ventura Family Magazine called “Dr. Jenn” where she writes about parenting issues. She has written and given advice for Ladies Home Journal. In addition, she has been featured in: the Los Angeles Times, US Weekly, The Chicago Tribune, Good Housekeeping Magazine, Parents Magazine, Cooking Light Magazine, and Lawyers Weekly. She has also been interviewed for numerous website magazines. She had the honor of writing the foreword to the book Pushed to the Edge: How to Stop the Child Competition Race… So Everyone Wins (Fall 2003). Dr. Jenn is in the process of writing her first book.

This season you can see Dr. Jenn on NBC’s newest primetime reality show working as a relationship expert. Last season, you may have seen her giving advice to newly engaged couples on Fox’s reality show Married By America. Dr. Jenn is a regular on Inside Edition (KCAL), Soap Talk (ABC), Modern Girl’s Guide to Life (Style), Celebrity Justice (KTLA), Ultra Sound (MTV), All Access (VH-1), Love Chain (E!), The Other Half (NBC), and 48 Hours (CBS). In 2002, she hosted a live weekly segment on KEYT News (ABC) called “Ask Dr. Jenn” where she spoke about current psychological issues and answered live questions from viewers who called in. The show was telecast live on channel 3 and simultaneously broadcast on 1250-AM. In addition, she has made appearances on: Talk Back: Live (CNN), Nightly News (NBC), Action News (CBS), In the Money (CNN), Lifetime Now (Lifetime), The Rob Nelson Show (Fox), Showbiz Live (CNN), A Second Look (Style), VH-1 News (VH-1), Biography 2003 (A&E), Dangerous Intersections (Discovery), and over eighty others. Her television appearances have been broadcast in China, England, Scotland, and the United States.

Dr. Jenn has a Bachelor degree from Emerson College in mass communications/ journalism, a Masters degree in clinical psychology from Antioch University, and a Doctorate in psychology, specifically Marriage, Child, and Family therapy, from California Graduate Institute.

She has been on all sides of the performance world. She has served as a sports coach, a judge for gymnastic competitions, and grew up as an elite level athlete. She spent five years on the United States Rhythmic Gymnastics National Team, was a Junior National Champion, winning five gold medals out of five, competed in many international competitions and performed exhibitions at the 1984 Olympic Games.

Dr. Jenn lives in Los Angeles, California with her husband. She spends much her free time being physically active taking dance and spin classes. In 1999, she accomplished a lifetime goal, running the LA Marathon.
