About Michele Borba, Ed.D.
Michele Borba, Ed.D., author of 19 books on parenting, character educations and self-esteem including Building Moral Intelligence and No More Misbehavin, 38 Difficult Behaviors and How to Stop Them, has worked with more than half a million parents and teachers over the course of more than two decades. A dynamic and highly sought-after speaker, she has presented hundreds of keynote addresses and workshops throughout North America, Europe, Asia and the South Pacific on enhancing children’s self-esteem, achievement, and behavior. Her down-to-earth speaking style, inspirational stories, and practical strategies and solution-based ideas appeal to audiences worldwide.
Dr. Borba 1999 book Parents Do Make A Difference was selected by Child Magazine as one of the most outstanding parenting books of the year. Her Esteem Builders has been used by over 1,500,000 students worldwide and was quoted by Newsweek as one of the most widely-used self-esteem curriculums over the past two decades. Dr. Borba is also a contributing writer to Chicken Soup for the Soul and has been featured in Newsweek, Family Circle, Child Magazine, Parents Magazine, Working Mother, Family Life, Personal Excellence, First for Women, Redbook, and LA Times.
As a recognized expert on parenting and self-esteem, Dr. Borba has been a frequent guest on television and NPR radio talk shows throughout North America including ABC's The View, ABC's Home Show, Fox Channel’s The Parent Table, Family Talk, Turning Point, To Your Health, The Parent’s Journal, Canadian Parent Report, ETN, and Success Radio and served as a expert source to ABC 20/20, Arnold Shapiro Productions, and Sunburst documentaries on self-esteem. Her numerous awards include the National Educator Award, presented by the National Council of Self-Esteem; Santa Clara University’s Outstanding Alumna Award; and the award for Outstanding Contribution to the Educational Profession, presented by the Bureau of Education and Research. She has recently been named the Honorary chairperson for the Implementation of Self-Esteem in Hong Kong.
Dr. Borba was formerly a classroom and college teacher and has had a wide range of teaching experience, including work in regular education as well as work with children with learning disabilities; children with physical, behavioral, and emotional disabilities; and gifted children. She and her husband were partners in a private practice for troubled children and adolescents in Campbell, California. She received her doctorate in educational psychology and counseling from the University of San Francisco, her M.A. in learning disabilities, and her B.A. from the University of Santa Clara; she earned a life teaching credential from San Jose State University. She currently lives in Palm Springs, California, with her husband and three teenage sons.
