How to Embrace Your Inner Strength

As a fitness enthusiast, I am used to challenging my body every day at the gym.  I can push myself through a tough weight training program and can also be very disciplined with my diet; especially around competition time. As a Figure and Bikini competitor, I am used to pushing my body hard!

But what about inner strength? We are all born with it. Women use their inner strength every day when juggling a million balls in the air. We are used to staying strong for our family and loved ones when a crisis, heartache, or health issue emerges. We are powerful, passionate, and unique beings. If you feel you are sometimes having trouble tapping into your inner strength, here are some tips that can help you:

Meditation. One of the best ways to tap into your inner strength is through meditation. This practice can help reduce stress levels, connect you to information from your “higher self” and fill you with positive energy. You don’t have to spend hours doing this. Five or ten minutes a day can make a huge difference. Close your eyes, take in some nice deep breaths, and focus only on the inhalation & exhalation of each breath.  If your thoughts wander, bring your attention back to your breath.

Positive Attitude. If we are constantly engaging in negative thought patterns, it’s hard to connect to our inner power. Nothing positive is going to come from us telling ourselves that we are lacking in some way. Keep a positive outlook on life. When a curve ball is thrown your way in your day-to-day living, center yourself through deep breathing, and repeat an affirmation that gives you positive energy such as “I handle all obstacles with grace and ease.”

Humor. Sometimes we just have to find the humor in a difficult situation. Get together with some friends or loved ones and have a good laugh. If no one is around, you can watch a movie or tv show that you know always gives you a good, old fashioned belly laugh. As they say, laughter is the best medicine!

Learn Something New. When we learn something new, we challenge ourselves. We gain confidence by accomplishing a new endeavor, which makes us feel stronger, renewed, and gives us the power to feel like we can accomplish anything.

If you feel you are lacking in inner strength, focus on the following words to help you understand how wonderful you truly are. Put the words “I am” in front of each word listed below:

Strong

Interesting

Compassionate

Loving

Joyful

Smart

Creative

Energetic

Confident

You are all these things and more! Find some new words to add to the list and make a new mantra for yourself each day!
