In the fast paced world that we find ourselves living in today, it is not uncommon for people to feel overwhelmed with all of the things they have to do and the decisions that they have to make in their lives every day. Some people feel unequipped to handle all of the decisions that they have to make. It would be helpful for these people who are feeling overwhelmed if they could enhance their decision making skills. This would not only allow these stressed out people to make decisions faster, but also it would make them feel more comfortable with the decisions that they have made.

1. Always create a “pros and cons” list.

Although creating a “pros and cons” list every time you are faced with a decision making situation may seem time consuming, it will actually save you a lot of time in the end. By mapping out the benefits and downfalls of each side of a decision on paper, you allow yourself to physically see which side of the decision seems more appealing to you. A physical list is great for large decisions and will help you make a more informed decision. This tactic can also be used for small decisions. You can make a mental list and still see the benefits of a “pros and cons” list.

2. Practice your critical thinking skills regularly.

A lot of times when we find it difficult to make a decision, it is simply because our brains are fried and they are too tired to have the capacity to make a decision that would otherwise be quite simple. In order to stretch the capacity of your mind, keep it sharp! The best way to do that is to practice your critical thinking skills regularly. You can do this by playing mind games such as Sudoku and cross word puzzles. You can also keep your brain sharp by reading regularly. By exercising your mind, you will be able to have more functionality from your brain for longer periods of time.

3. Make sure that you are getting adequate and regular amounts of sleep.

The biggest thing we can do to make sure our brain, and also the rest of our body, is working to its full potential is to get the right amount of sleep. It is recommended that adults get about eight hours of sleep per night. Not only do you need to think about the amount of sleep you are getting, but also that your sleep patterns are regular. Even if you are getting eight hours of sleep every night, it will not be as beneficial to you as it could if you do not have a regular sleep schedule. In order to keep your mind and your body working at its best, try to go to sleep at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every morning. Getting your mind and body into this routine will give you positive results.
