How Changing One Simple Thing Will Triple Your Profits

How Changing One Simple Thing Will Triple Your ProfitsBy Kelly Robbins

Have you been thinking about starting your own business for a while, but all the reasons why you can’t are dominating your thoughts?

Do you see others doubling, even tripling, their profits in business while you stay stuck? When you brainstorm on how to increase your own revenues, can you only see obstacles and all the reasons why it would be impossible for you to grow?

This is a common problem many work at home women that struggle to achieve their goals suffer from. They have a negative default response program – I call it the “Why I Can’t Syndrome”. If you feel stuck working like a dog to up-level your life, yet you can’t quite seem to get there, you are seeing the world and your situation because of faulty (and probably old) programming.

In order to accomplish your goals you need to first recognize that your lens is faulty. Then acknowledge what lens to use, and then change your lens. The new lens is the “How I Can” lens. This is the lens that changes results; changes lives.

Look for How You CAN, Not Why You Can’t:

When faced with a decision, particularly one that involves growth or stepping into more, do you find that you want to say yes but don’t? That those words just can’t come out of your mouth? Is this particularly true if the decision involves spending money?

When presented with an opportunity, many of us were raised to evaluate the irresponsibleness of the decision, rather than learning how to step into true growth. For example, you might hear yourself say:

  • I can’t charge any more than I already do – my clients already can barely afford me
  • I need to save my money for a rainy day – not spend it on intangible things
  • Spending right now is not a smart move in this economy
  • It is irresponsible for me to use my credit card or accumulate debt, even if it is for growth
  • I can’t invest in marketing or my business growth, there are no guarantees
  • I can’t quit my job because that’s too risky
  • I will not make sales calls because I am just bothering people

When faced with a challenge or an opportunity for change, successful female entrepreneurs look at events differently than everybody else. For example, say your business coach suggests you double your rates to hit your revenue goals. You can respond in two ways:

The Why I Can’t Lens:

Is she nuts? I can’t double my rates! I am barely getting by charging what I am now. How could she possibly suggest that? Just because she charges top of the scale rates doesn’t mean everyone can. My market won’t support those kinds of fees. There is more competition here than anywhere else in the country. I should never have spent my money on coaching she doesn’t understand my industry….

The How I Can Lens:

Double my rates. If I did that I would really be setting myself apart from everyone else in my market. What kinds of things can I offer so I feel my clients are getting the value they deserve for paying that high of fees? I could cut my time in half and keep my same rate. I could add-on some value added services that my admin does, which won’t cost me much. In order to do this I need to start getting in front of a different type of person. Perhaps I can try this, this and this…
Do you see the difference between the two? Your internal programming defaults to one type of response….Why I Can’t or How I Can.

The first step is to become aware of which response you default too. If you are not making the money you want assume you suffer from the “Why I Can’t Syndrome”.

The second step is to actually catch yourself when this default response mechanism kicks-in and then consciously switch to the more empowering “How I Can” response. This will take time, patience, and practice. Most people find it difficult to catch themselves defaulting to the Why I Can’t response all the time. This is where a strong business coach can help you speed through the process of change.

You will find you not only default to this unsupportive response in work. It pops up in relationships, in dreaming, in creating your life, and in health choices….

Want to Dramatically Change Results in Your Life?

1. Determine if your unconscious responses are “How I can” or “Why I Can’t” – you know this by your results in life.

2. Catch yourself making “Why I Can’t” responses and change them – this may require an outside influence.
