Interview with Lori Naipo – Owner Doggies Unlimited & Independent Rep for My Fun Life

Interview with Lori NaipoTell us a little bit about yourself and your entrepreneurial journey.

I was born and raised in Hawaii and was fortunate to work in 5 star hotels in customer service management positions. I loved working with people from all over the world. I left Hawaii and moved to Las Vegas for 14 years. I was not happy with any of the jobs I had, as working with people had changed drastically compared to the island life.

While living in Vegas about 7 years ago, my Golden Retriever started stealing the people jerky that I made while it was being dehydrated. He also figured out how to steal pizza and lasagna from the oven. My first thought was that the preservatives in the jerky mix cannot be good for a dog. And it actually started my quest to research the ingredients in dog treats and dog food. Over a couple of years of research I was saddened to find exactly what ingredients were being used in both treats and food. Because he liked my people jerky so much I decided to make fresh jerky for him from beef, turkey and chicken with 5 vegetables and nothing else. He went crazy for it and would sit by the refrigerator waiting for more.

As I shared this with family and friends they told me their dogs loved it and they suggested I sell it online. I also started making organic dog biscuits and that is how I started Doggies Unlimited. In 2008, I retired and moved to Eastern Washington where I now live and I not only running Doggies Unlimited but I am also a Independent Representative for Life’s Healthy Pet Food which is Life’s Abundance and My Fun Life. I am glad to be my own boss as I have so much more time to do other things I like to do and still able to earn and income.

What did you do before launching your own business?

I worked 2 jobs at a time to make ends meet as the pay in Las Vegas was nothing compared to the islands.

How did you fund your business?

I actually created it day by day and paycheck by paycheck.

How many hours do you work a week and how much is spent is your home office?

At the beginning I put in a lot of hours creating and networking. Now I work as my orders come in as they are made fresh and with no preservatives and shipped the same day.

Interview with Lori NaipoHow would you rate your success?

I feel I have done well in an industry that has so much competition.

What has been your biggest business struggle as an entrepreneur?

Learning how to market my website.

What advice would you give to a new entrepreneur?

Do your research on all aspects of what you want to do. Share it with others to get their feedback. And if it all looks good to you and you feel comfortable, then go for it. You won’t know unless you try.

How do you manage all of your personal and business activities?

My business activities don’t slow down my personal life. That’s what I like about being my own boss.
