Interview with Pam Howard – Certified Health Coach

Interview with Pam HowardTell us a little bit about yourself and your entrepreneurial journey.

I enjoy helping other women who are busy and overwhelmed and letting themselves be last on the list to find true health and vibrancy!  I love the variety of what I do.  Each day is different. I work with women one on one, I’ve created an easy and helpful menu planning e-course, I blog regularly, write guest posts, conduct workshops and even have an amazing “New You for the New Year” group coaching session planned for January of 2013.  Everything goes right back to creating a healthy, balanced, FUN life, but I have different vehicles for creating that.  My philosophy is that all women are unique, so what works for me might not work for you – and I approach each client with that same thought process.

What did you do before launching your own business?

I’ve been a WAHM for many years.  I’m lucky enough to have a great job that allows me to work at home, but it wasn’t something I was passionate about.  This year my son started Kindergarten full time so I’ve found myself with a bit more flexibility.  It felt like it was time to really launch myself into something I love.  Health Coaching is perfect for me!  It’s a topic I’m very interested in. I even completed a yearlong certification process “just for fun” before I decided to go into business for myself.

How did you fund your business?

The business is self-funded. I do a lot of the work myself, although I will often use other entrepreneur moms to help out with areas I am not as skilled in (web design, etc.).

How many hours do you work a week and how much is spent is your home office?

I work on my business about twenty hours a week, most of which is spent in my home office. Once in a while I’ll get to meet a client in person (versus Skype or the phone), which is FUN, or I’ll conduct a workshop at a local business or for a local group.

How would you rate your success?

I rate my success by how often I can help a woman feel more confident, healthy and HAPPY!

What has been your biggest business struggle as an entrepreneur?

Finding the time to do as much as I’d like to. I have so many fun ideas for growing the business and I have to continually remind myself to concentrate on one thing at a time!

What advice would you give to a new entrepreneur?

Pick something you love and are passionate about.  I love health and wellness, and am never tired of talking about it, learning more and helping others – makes it the perfect business for me!

How do you manage all of your personal and business activities?

I try to keep my work focused during school hours so when my kids are home I can be present.  Also, I almost never work on the weekends – that is strictly family time for me!
