It’s There for the Taking – Finishing Strong

It’s There for the Taking – Finishing StrongDr. Barbara Seifert, CPC

Well, here we are at the beginning of another new month; this must mean that it’s time to set new goals for what you want to accomplish over these next 31 days. Now I’m all about that but, to be quite honest, I’m a bit tired of the whole goal-setting thing. Now don’t get me wrong as I’m not negating the power of setting goals; after all, we all need aims and desires to move ourselves forward. But it seems that so much focus gets put on the setting of goals, but what if nothing come of them; while setting those goals is a necessity they don’t mean squat if you don’t do anything about them.

I’ve come to really put more focus in my work with clients on the end result; it’s about ‘kicking butt and finishing strong.”

For my clients, that might mean amping up their performance to a whole new level, or getting that VP promotion, or getting their creative business idea off the ground. Being in action-mode needs to be the norm – no more “I want to …” – this will get you nowhere except where you are right now as well as leave you in a negative way. I’ve come to this new mantra from my own experience – I for one have had to get to the space and kick my own butt. It’s time to quit playing small and start living large.

The new month is a the perfect time to get going and really take your performance and your mind-set up ten notches and begin having the very things you want when you set goals.

Put your focus on action and less on planning.

I’m sure you’ve got unfulfilled goals that you’ve mulled over and over and are just lying around. Dust them off and get going:

1. Review your goals to see if they’re still desirable and relevant – those ideas can lose their excitement over time

2. Prioritize for importance and excitement – choose the one that makes your heart race as this will have the best chance of getting done.

3. Mindmap, vision board, story-tell, or write out what appeals to your senses and learning style – all the various steps or ways you can get the goals accomplished, including any resources and support you may need.

4. BEGIN.

Now is the perfect time to ‘kick some butt’ and take your career or business to a higher level. “Starting strong is good. Finishing strong is epic.” (Robin Sharma).
