Transforming Your Life and Business

Transforming Your Life and BusinessBy Milissa Harding

A couple of weeks ago, I attending an amazing three-day conference, and the theme of the conference was transformation. I left the conference really reflecting on what transformation means to me. To me, transformation means having the courage to find out who you really are, then to have a second helping of courage and create a life that reflects who you are on the inside. The more I thought about this, the more I came to realize how this relates to all of us as entrepreneurs. Here’s why:

Your Business is YOU

If your business is truly a vehicle for self-expression (which I believe it should be), then others will see you when they see your business… makes sense? The challenge with this is that many entrepreneurs spend very little time on personal growth and development, even though investing time in this is crucial for building a successful business. There are probably many reasons why this is the case, but I think that one of the main reasons is because we don’t have a clear understanding of the connection between personal development and business growth. Also, it’s not something that is discussed often as we are working to build our businesses.

Committing to Personal Development

Perhaps you are really strong in the marketing aspect of being an entrepreneur, but something doesn’t seem to be adding up when it comes to seeing results.  Maybe you love your business, but you can’t figure out why you’re not attracting the kinds of clients you want. If either of these examples resonate with you, I’m going to suggest that your personal development might be in need of a “tune up”.

I like to think that when you transform your life, you transform your business, because your business is a reflection of YOU. If you are feeling out of alignment on the inside, it’ll show up on the outside. A commitment to life transformation can radically change what you experience in your business.

So, where do you begin? Here are some questions you can ask yourself to get you started:

  • How would I like to feel about my life and my business? Am I experiencing this right now?
  • Which area(s) of my life are in need of more attention (relationships, spiritual, physical, creativity, etc.). Commit to making simple improvements in this area(s) on a regular basis.
  • Is my business a true expression of my (beliefs, values, interests), or do I feel unfulfilled and unhappy in my business?”.

Journaling can be an excellent way to get your thoughts and ideas on paper, as well as to process new information that you’re learning about yourself. As you go through your day, be aware of how you’re feeling (and relating) to your business, and take small steps each day to improve yourself in an area that you feel needs your attention right now. Notice how your commitment to transformation on the inside begins to lead to exciting transformation in your business on the outside!
